I am just going to take the time to comment on what a brilliant job the Gideros team has done and continues doing.

I am a professional software developer (not apps though, that's mostly for fun at this point) and have been developing software since I was a kid (more than 20 years ago), often working with new languages and interfaces, and I don't remember anything that's been as easy to get started with as Gideros.

It just works. My team actually started out with Corona, but switched to Gideros within the first couple of hours as we were unlucky (well, lucky, as it turned out) to immediately hit the first unsolvable problem and look for alternatives.

We also immediately noticed how active atilim is on this forum and that is a HUGE deal.

Instant app testing is just brilliant and we never want to work without that again, especially for apps you can't really test in simulators (accelerometers, multi-touch, etc.).

To us Gideros means extremely easy development and the plugin system means that when something is no longer extremely easy, it's still possible.

Thank you very much for all of this. What you have here and have given us (for next to nothing) is truly unique.

@SnowThief Well said, and I would certainly second that one, Gideros is pretty amazing and I too have been programming since I was young--9 to be exact, back in Qbasic :P

good old days i remembered my RadioShock computer which had Basic language inside. And opening with it only no OS. And those times with my brother we had one book with simple game code examples in Basic. (Gues the number, Rolutte, tic-tac-toe etc..) We were coding those examples and playing together but unfortunately our lovely computer had no storage so at night my mom was screaming to us and when it is closed all coding already gone:( And morning again the same procedure

@talis wow that really brings me back heh, I used to have one of the those military briefcase computers, ran big-flops no hard-disk at all. Heh man I wasted a LOT of hours on that thing but it was good fun, go go Gorillaz! :P

I pretty much blame basic on my getting into programming, it went Qbasic->Pascal->ASM->C->C++->Visual Basic->PERL->Python->PHP->ASP->JAVA->ObjectiveC and now LUA :P

Actually I forgot quite a few languages in there but you get the idea, code forever lol

Now you've gone and done it. I learned programming on a trs-80 in the local Tandy shop. Started with basic and moved onto z80 assembly even before the zx spectrum came out. At least we had tape storage to save our programmes onto.

@Scouser well I had a 8080 and programmed it with it's funky 10-key--but this was while I was in highschool because I was geeky like that. :P

@gregBug i had amstrad, again my father's computer but we were playing old old old boulderdash with my brother on it. My friends had commodore i know every little secret of that lovely machine:) Then i had amiga, pc sx25, dx4 100, pentium mmx, celeron 400a (hehe overclocked to 1000ghz with water cooling) and now my laptop:D

Trs80 coco, Amiga 2000. My little brother was into his C64. BBSs were the thing. Remember lynx browsing?

@GregBUG: Forty, I wish, try fifty next month. Yes I had C64, Spectrum, TRS-80, ST, Amiga, PC, Elan, Sam Coupe. I programmed all of them in asm and had games published on them all (many, many years ago.

@Teranth: I also had a Nascom which never got built, I don't know where it went to.

OK who's idea was it with the reminiscing? I won't get any work done now for at least a few hours while I go searching for the games I used to love playing. Grrrrrr

@GregBUG - I'm not as old as @Scouser but I have slipped over the wrong side of 40 as well (in fact according to Douglas Addams I'm the ultimate answer to life the universe and everything!) )

Also - like @Scouser, I *upgraded* to a C64 when my VIC-20 packed up! (never did get a spectrum though), then went Atari ST, a range of PC's until I finally got to the setup I have today!

Woah!! CopperBars, now there's a blast from the past. C64 demo coding when demo coders knew how to push the hardware they had, instead of today where they just use more & more memory and don't really push the hardware to their limits.

Well, comparing to you guys, I'm probably the least experienced.

I'm actually in coding world only for about 4 years now. And had my first PC less then ten years ago. Which was new Pentium 4 with Windows XP. Did not see anything before that

@ar2rsawseen - I actually feel sorry for you, you've missed out on so much, it's a lot harder to appreciate just how advanced some of the current stuff is and how amazing it is without knowing how it came into being.

Personally I think it's really important that classics like tetris, manic miner, jetpac, knight lore etc etc get made, remade and carried forward.

Me too And I had ZX81, ZX Spectrum, and Commodore 128D - still have that last one, but have not turned it on for something like last 20 years... The time passes so fast...

they consume too much time, more than I can afford. I'd rather be creating ones and not playing them. But unfortunately, one does not go without other

@ar2rsawseen can't agree more heh, I used to be game crazy as a kid, but as I grew up I'd rather make them most times then play them. (Except for a few favorites by Blizzard....*shifty eyes*)

I must admit, I also get more pleasure from making rather than playing games, mabe it's because I've seen it all before and I know my ideas / take on concepts are better
