Push notifications

Hi.

Were in the starting phase of writing a turnbased multiplayer puzzle game and have been evaluating different frameworks.
Right now Gideros looks like the best choice for us. However, the apparent lack of push notifications in Gideros (something rather important in a turn based multiplayer game) forces us to choose a different framework.

So, since I really really like Gideros, I need to make sure all isnt lost. Is there any way to make platform independent push notifications work? (over pubnub or something)

Next version will have LuaSocket integrated, so you can create your solution using sockets.

I think it's possible to implement registering to Push notifications through plugins

Looking at the pubnub code for lua-corona ( https://github.com/pubnub/pubnub-api/tree/master/lua-corona) it looks like it might be a simple port to Gideros. Seems to only use the "network.request" function from c*r*n* so it might just work if you replace network.request with UrlLoader?

Hey this works! I got real curious even though I don't need this right now so I tried it.

I had to remove the crypto function since I don't know if gideros has something equivalent to that Corona library.

pretty cool stuff, also pubnub is free for the first million messages (but limited to 200 connections)

Like @avo said, I also had to comment out the crypto library -- code uses a call to crypto.digest(crypto.md5, ....).

https urls don't work either.

Crypto isn't needed for basic usage - i.e., just don't encrypt messages or communicate with clients that encrypt.

Their readme (in the root of their github repository) has a list of requirements for a proper client - crypto is included in the list.

I believe it's only a problem if you need to encrypt your messages.

I think the main concern would actually be having your pubhub keys in plain text in a lua file that someone could potentially get access to. Since as is a compiled app isn't very secure as far as I am aware?

Alas, a temporary victory for me.
If I understand it correctly, pubnub will never allow me to push badges or alerts to phones.

What about APNS/C2DM support? I guess its possible with a plugin.

@avo, you are right, a lot of lua based apps have usernames, secretID's etc all in plain text and plain sight, not that the casual user can pick them up, but still there for someone that just tries.
