Age restrictions? — Gideros Forum

Age restrictions?

FishFish Member
edited March 2014 in General questions
I made a little app with Gideros that I want to try to publish to the google play store. But the only problem is that im not 18 yet. Should I publish it under my parents name and just send any ad revenue to my bank account? How could i go about this legally? They just turn down debit cards if you under 18 even if its yours so i couldn't pay my registration fee.

  • yes you can create apple or google account with your parents name i have done the same my apple and google account is from my brother's name. however i don't know whether you can transfer your money in your account or not in my case me and my brother both are > 18 and i transfer money in my and my brother's account to save tax

    :)
  • also transferring of app is allowed in both apple and google play so once you are 18+ you can safely transfer your apps from your parent's account to your account if you also want to be famous :)

i don't know how robert nay (bubble ball) has released his app at the age of 14. may be same trick?

    :)
  • @hgvyas,
while forming a company and legal entity is based on age restrictions, there is nothing that stops a parent from registering on behalf of the child. There are no tricks, Roberts mother had helped him create the account, but he was the author of the app.

@Fish, you can get a parent or a guardian to set up the financial and administrative side of things for you.

As for the tax and other related things, it would differ from country to country and would also take personal situation into consideration. If you are in on of the western countries and are above 14, you are legally allowed to work (albeit part-time) and your income would not cross the basic slabs (hopefully) if it does, then you simply pay the taxes.

  • You can work at any age in most countries - you might just have to get permission in order to do so. You should be able to use a pre-paid 'credit' card with Apple - they won't be able to tell the difference.

If you are aged 16 or over then you can own and run a company in the UK, see:

"Will there be a minimum and maximum age for directors?

    A. The Act introduces a minimum age for a director of 16. Any directors under 16, when the Act is implemented in October 2008, will automatically cease to be a director.

From 6th April 2007 the maximum age for directors of PLC's, which was 70, has been removed."

  • Btw - the company can have it's own bank account/debit/credit cads - but your bank might need your parents to be a Director too and let them have the card - but you can be 100% share holder and then you just have a board meeting and get rid of the parents as directors after you get the card!

So could I create another Google account with my parents name and age and have it linked to my original Google account? Or would they need a separate account? Either way they would give me full control over the account.

@SinisterSoft I don't think i want to set up a company right now sounds like more trouble then its worth at the moment :P
