Opening Gideros on a Mac

Greetings
I just downloaded Gideros to my Macbook to try it out and have it installed in my applications folder. I open Gideros Studio and get an error reading:
"The application Gideros Studios quit unexpectedly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected
Click Relaunch to launch the application again. Click report to see more details or send a report to Apple."
I'm on OS X 10.5.8 -- is 10.6 required to run Gideros or is it something else? I meet all the system requirements stated in the tutorial. Any idea what the issue is?
