Gideros releases: should each package contain everything ?

More precisely, it is worth having the .exe version being able to output OSX and iOS projects, and the .pkg version being able to output Win/UWP projects ?

I personnaly uses Gideros for OSX when building OSX/iOS projects, and Gideros for Windows for other platforms, and I don't think it is useful to be able to export an iOS project from Gideros for Windows, unless you copy the files afterwards to send them to somone who have a Mac.

Removing the templates that aren't useful in a platform would hugely reduce the download size for the installer.

What do you think ?

For me the size of the installer is not important, even if Gideros will weigh 50 gigabytes - for me it does not matter.

I think it should be done so that it would be easier to release a Gideros update. If it is easier for you to release two versions separately - then make them separately ..

I'd prefer Gideros for Windows could export for all platforms.

I don't have a Mac (and I don't have the money to buy one) but I could take project generated by it and use a service like https://www.codeincloud.net/features or https://www.macincloud.com/pages/tools-and-applications.html and pay just for the time I need one to compile the iOS project.

So, I believe that it's better all Gideros versions be able to generate all kind of projects.

Is there even a Gideros?

I think if you split the studio you just will write the code on the win version, and compile on the mac version - that is you do not make a difference to divide or not to divide ..

@oleg It has. But even if you miss something you're able to install it in your account on most of these services.

I agree, a smaller size would be a great move for gideros.
MAC/LINUX version: export to mac, ios, android, html5, linux.
PC: export to windows, uwp, android, html5.

Would it be harder for you to compile or maintain?

@MoKaLux I understand it may be good to have smaller packages to download, but for people like me that doesn't have access to both Windows and Mac at the same time it is better to be able to generate all projects from any version of Gideros.

@oleg There is a difference: One pays per hour to use the Mac. The less time I have to expend there, the better (and cheaper)

You will make the game on the win version for free and then you will only compile on the poppy version for $ 30

@MoKaLux I have to disagree.. as somebody who just has a mac emulator to do the crapple stuff, it's good to just be able to export from Windows to a network folder, and then import the x-code stuff inside the emulator.

I don't have a mac and don't target mac. In gideros you make your game so you have your project ready.
Then when you want to export to mac use the gideros mac version otherwise use the win gideros version.

But in the end I don't mind a 1gb gideros version vs a 500mb version.
Unless we have a very light size (<= 50mb)

Ok, looks like you prefer large downloads over having to export your project on two platforms, I won’t change that then. Note however that at some point we may have an app/ipa export like the apk one, and it will require to export from a Mac with Xcode installed to work

@hgy29 it would be magic if iOS could export like APK does currently. I messed about and after hours got one testflight app compiled using x-code and it was confusing as hell... even more then buggering about with android studio. One-Click export rules!

Actually building an iOS package from the Xcode project directory is as easy as issue a ‘xcodebuild’ command from a terminal, but project has to be completely configured first, and Gideros isn’t able to setup signing stuff by itself.

I think long term it would be best that the editor downloads the template folders as they are needed. That way the main editor can be a smaller download and it just downloads the export 'bundle' for what you want to export if it's out of date or doesn't exist.

Maybe another thing to do first would be to remove plugin sources from the package. There is a lot of cleaning up to do, but that takes time. Another option would be to stop including pre-built players, since we end up needing specific plugins configuration most of the time for real life uses.

One issue is as the files get bigger the download from github gets more unreliable, it's a good job it's mirrored on SF.

My netbook takes years to install Gideros

But it's hardware problem
