As I see it:

As of 2019, Gideros, just out of the box, has pretty much everything you need to create apps and games for desktop and mobile:
GLSL Shaders, Physics (LiquidFun), Meshes, Particles, Texturepacks, Tilemaps, Blend modes, Stencil, IAP/Ads, JSON, Skeletal animations (Spine/Dragonbones), Sockets & real-time multiplayer (PhotonCloud/Noobhub/Colyseus), and plenty of other plugins built-in.

Besides that, few more advantages can be mentioned:
- Instant on-device testing
- True Multithreading
- Various Lua enhancements
- Facebook Instant Games support
- Unique async calls system (besides regular enterframe callbacks, we can write a program "sequentially", like we would have written for the Commodore 64 or DOS PC, ie assuming our program has complete control of the computer)
- Built-in Profiler
- Built-in Debugger
- Full assets encryption

Black desert and IO engine don't even see to be engines you can just download and use. How the heck did they get on the list?

If I was developing an engine rating formula - I would look at which engines wrote games that won in other categories.

Defold and gamemaker probably gain more popularity cuz of editor and juicy tutorials
I tried botf them before gideros, and they are so unnatural you end up learning editor instead of focusing on game problems and still editor doesnt help you much

@gemboy100 I agree with you. It should have tons od tutorials. I don't like to use editors but I know many people that don't know how to program like them.

Gideros community is really amazing but lack of tutorials is quite a showstopper. Newbies (myself included) love tutorials.

You don't need tutorials, the only thing you need is API tutorials.
Just try what each team does and you will know everything better than any manuals.

It depends on your motives: if the motive is to teach the beginner - there are no manuals needed, if the motive is to lure newcomers then the manuals are needed

They're important for me and for many people.

You need to understand that each person has its own way of learning.

i had a friend who has learned english language just by himself, mostly from books, but still most people prefer language courses. it's the same with references and manuals i guess.

These are different things. Learning a language is like learning a tutorial on how to create Tetris - but this tutorial will teach you how to create Tetris and teach you nothing more. And if you understand API yourself and create Tetris without a guide, you will learn how to create more than Tetris

There is research into how the human brain works - people who learn to play chess - much dumber than people who do not play chess. Because chess does not teach a person to think - chess teaches a person to play chess.

Scientists took pairs of twins and forced one twin to play chess for a week and forbade the other to play chess and then checked how they were studying at school ..

@oleg It really doesn't matter what some science guy thinks because if 99% of people want or need tutorials, then that's what you need to give them

I wrote above that everything depends on the motives, and my words cannot be viewed without the context of what I said before them

I gave advice to plicatibu not on how to promote Gideros, I gave advice personally for plicatibu how to quickly understand gideros

actually making tutorials should not be that hard. i don't think there is a need to cover everything in tutorials, rather to have a quick start.
(i say this while i never had interest in programming video tutorials and also i won't make any).
so all in all we should have one very good list of like 10 video tutorials and put it in a very well visible part of the homepage. perhaps some of the videos made by forum members recently would do the job.

I really thank you for sharing what you think it's the best way to learn but I learn more following tutorials.

I learn this way:

I type each and every character ( I don't like copy/paste)
I fix all mistakes until it works as expected.
I start making changes in it to see what I get. At this point I start reading API documentation (unless the function names are not clear enough or they're used in a way that seems unusual given their names)
After some tutorials, when I feel comfortable with the API I start doing stuffs by myself. In this phase I consult API documentation and take snippets from previous tutorials I studied.

So for me tutorials are needed. Tons of them.

when promoting a product you have to think how other people think
for me i think promoting is very important to grow community( even if noob community it still create space for other programers to make plugins and stuff)

another fact is that we live in this time when young people learn almost everything from videos - caused by lazyness, i know its pointless to learn programming from video tutorial but it gives some fake feeling that you will learn easy and fast

no need to mention how search engine affect your product rating.. almost every google search gives you a video results in top 3 listing
type "how to make flappy bird" this stup*d tutorials you get as a results are maybe the best promotion xD

its a big list of stuff to be done when promoting, its not simply enough to say "we will be so good people will realize eventually"

In most cases it is bad advice.
1. - not the target audience - only harms the product (If you rely on the majority of outsiders, most are not the target audience)
2. It is better to attract 1 person who will make a successful game on the Gideros engine, than to attract 100 novices who will make copies of games on tutorials
3Most successful products become successful because they give users something that users did not know before, so don't ask users for their opinion - they don't know what they need (There are many games that have become worse after improving upon user demand. )
4. There is a donate system in Gideros - you have to give money for the direction of development of Gideros that you think you need - want a lot of lessons - donate money to it, this is a great system of determining what to develop in Gideros

i understand what you are saying
but i never said gideros should change the way it works (i think gideros is actually the simplest engine to work with) and this is huge advantage compared with others, and it needs to be shown to publicity

I just oppose your thesis in general, not specifically about gideros
