I participated in a gamejam

I submitted a quick game (only one little level because I was in a hurry) on itch.io.

The gamejam is hosted by a french site to which I am a member. I did tell how great gideros is. Hopefully that will bring a little attention. It is my little contribution to the community.

@hgy29 peut-être connais-tu David de gamecodeur, il apprend à programmer des jeux en lua principalement avec love2d mais il parle de temps en temps de gideros. Une "collaboration" pourrait se faire entre toi et lui ?

I don’t know him personally, but I see his posts/ads on FB regularly. We can certainly talk if he is interested in gideros, and with even greater pleasure if it is about teaching gideros to future developers.

thank you guys. I only participated to talk about gideros to others. The gamejam is not over so I may add more juicy stuff to it.

@hgy29 I don't think david is going to change to gideros because he will argue that the code is easily portable to gideros. I think he could do more advertisement about gideros but why would he? The only reason I see here is that you are both french! Hopefully you will get to know one another soon.

talking about love2d, both that and processing have now an android app which can be used to develop straight on the android machine without the need for a pc, which is fun.

i think giderossdkplayer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=info.simart.gideros can also do that if the game files are put in the appropriate folder, so perhaps this could be emphasized/explained in the page of the app. or even better there could be a help button in the android sdk player which tells you where to put your files to be able to run your game.

I don't get why would somebody want to develop stuff sitting on android? PC is more convenient, isn't it?

well, the other day i had only my android tablet with me on holiday and i wanted to teach somebody to code and it came handy that we could use a full processing ide+compiler.
i guess other people might have other use cases, in general i agree with you that it's not that common but young children many times end up with only an android machine around. yet i think this would be really easy to add to the gideros player and so i wanted to mention it.

Along the same lines I have an iPad Pro that is very close to being my development machine. So, that is not as far fetched as it sounds. I don't need an IDE as long as I have a linux app (iSH) that can run vim, tmux, gcc, g++, lua and networking. I just need a command line app that I am compiling from the code extracted from gideros studio to send the gideros project and source to the player. With that I would be fully detached from a laptop. I have a brydge keyboard and other then a true escape key, it all works pretty well. Not bad having a development that can also run iOS apps

tested on ms ie11 = does not work.

You need to click on escape (it's a button)

When I press escape, the game window shrinks and loses focus

It worked for you the first time? I did not change anything but the gameplay. You can try with ms edge?

PS: I suggested to itch.io the gideros studio tag as an engine, it was not mentioned, what a shame. I sent them some pictures + a link to the website (giderosmobile.com).

Everything worked before

I think the game just doesn\u0027t get keystrokes

@oleg it works on my side w10 x64. Did you try fullscreen and then click on the game? Everything is fine with me that's strange. Can anybody else try please?

If you press the esc key, the game exits full screen

I managed to start the game by clicking the mouse on the word escape

Small feedback:
-The walking animation does not match the speed of movement
-When changing direction of motion, the animation of the walk is delayed and the character slides his feet
-The mini map shows not all the level but only the part that the camera sees.
-There is not enough sound for walking, jumping, landing

ps/ I liked the recoil of the weapon, it is realistic

@oleg thank you for the feedback. I will have a look at the walking speed, will test different speed. Yes I have noticed the sliding effect will have a look again. The mini map doesn't show the whole level that's normal so you don't see the whole level. Not enough sound? oh well.

thank you for the feedback. What I am doing in the "game" when creating the tilemap:
1- there is one tile (64x64) in the gideros assets/gfx folder
2- from this tile I create a full tileset (around 16 tiles variations based on the 1 tile) createTilesetFom1Tile function
3- the function saves the tileset as a .png file to the gideros "|D|finalts.png"
4- finally in my level class I use it to draw my map

That works ok on windows (firefox, ms edge).
Do other gideros html games worked for you before?

I can try to save the png to the |t| directory but I am afraid that won't help?!

Sorry I misread your post, of course he is interested in gideros studio, David sometimes talks about gideros in his lessons! I believe he would be delighted to talk to you?! But the majority of his lessons are done using l2d.

In html export, |D| drive is faked using a browser database (indexedDB IIRC). I noticed that this database isn’t available when browsing in private mode (nothing is saved locally). However |T| files are stored in RAM, so they always work in html

ok I have changed it to be in the |T| folder. @tetnic could you please try?

@all please submit gideros to be added as a new tool, engine. I already made a request but I believe the more requests the faster. Link https://itch.io/suggest-a-tool

It's a shame that we use gideros and cannot add it in the tag section. Shame on itch.io!

I am back with a new submission to another gamejam hosted by the same people (gamecodeur.fr).

The theme of the gj is contamination (coronavirus) and I named my submission THE GIDEROS VIRUS hope I don't offend anyone here
