OK so because I had a problem today with this bug that I filed...
https://github.com/gideros/gideros/issues/282...I converted the offending wav to an mp3 and stuck it in my app and republished it.
Then I saw this regards mp3 licensing which looks a bit grim...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3#Licensing.2C_ownership_and_legislation I am not a lawyer, but I suppose that the 5000 copies mentioned in your link have to be distributed in the US and the few other places still enforcing that patent.
There is also this link you may be interested about:
https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/why-audio-format-matters.en.html However if I remember correctly @john26 was using OGG files in Longford, I wonder if it could be possible to "merge" this support in gideros too, to be on the safe side when some greedy lawyer would like to take your (our) hard earned nickels

MP3 patents have completely expired if you are in Europe, and have mostly expired in the USA - completely by 2017.
