Portrait vs Landscape

Hi Guys

I just wanted to see what your opinions are on this.

Traditionally, I've made all my Flash games in Landscape orientation. This seems natural for desktop screens and also in general. Devices however, have popularised the Portrait orientation, and a lot of games seem to be designed around it.

What is your preferred orientation?
Is one more popular than the other?
Why do you design your games around your selected orientation?

Thanks heaps in advance for you're replies :)

  • @Ninjadoodle For me personally, I have no particular preference, but two of our games are designed for landscape and one for portrait.

It all depends on what the game is, I suppose. For example, I think a tetris style game is more suitable in portrait whereas a racing game fits better in landscape.

Agreed, it all depends on the type of game, endless runners being suited to Landscape and endless jumpers suited to Portrait, etc
