Kickstarter rewards!

Now that the Gideros Kickstarter has been successfully funded (for which thank you all very much!) it is time to start the rewards. This thread will be a place to announce news on the various rewards and please feel free to ask any questions. Of course some rewards cannot be distributed straight away and will be accomplished on the time scales mentioned in the Kickstarter. But some can be fulfilled immediately. I would like to start with the £5 reward:

'Thank you in the new version of Gideros. Patrons will be listed in the Help menu and in the "donors.txt" file.'

I have now set up a donors.txt file in the Liberton/Gideros repository here:

Everyone who pledged £5 or more (and asked for a reward) is listed in this file and, of course, if you pledged more you will also receive further rewards in due course.

We will soon add all these names to the Gideros help menu also. I'll keep you updated on that.

Today, I also sent out a survey to those who pledged £100 or more asking you which Waterbread Internet game you would like to republish. When you reply to that I will start distributing the game source code by email.

Many thanks again for you support for the project. We are hard at work! You can check the Github repository above to see the progress we are making.

The list should be sorted into some kind of order imho - Alphabetical?

OK, I have now put it into alphabetical order! In some cases I don't know your full name only the nickname given to me by Kickstarter. If you want to put in your real name just let me know.

Also some people donated but did not ask for a reward. If that was you and you want your name on the list just ask!

And you really understand us, our names are the in last word (Phong, Duy) because it's Vietnamese naming convention

(Thai, Nguyen are last name / family name)

@phongtt, I wasn't sure which was your family name so filed you under "P". But really you should be under "T" if we are going by family name...I can change it if you like but you seem ok with it.... ;-)

It's often the case with Chinese people as well, they get filed under their given name in registers because this is normally quoted last (eg Mao Zedong would be filed under "Z" although the Chairman's family name was actually Mao). Anyway, Chinese seem to not mind this usually!

John, although Vietnamese naming order is similar to Chinese, there's a difference: in Vietnam, it would be extremely weird if you call a person by his family name (they will feel very unfamiliar)

For example, Dong Nguyen - the author of Flappy Bird, his real name is Nguyen Ha Dong (family name - middle name - name). I see most foreign newspaper calling him Nguyen, but actually no one in Vietnam call him so, they only call him Dong. And I'm sure he would also feel very uncomfortable if called Nguyen

Sorry this is rather delayed. I'm waiting for @ar2rsawseen to export the reference pages. Then I will edit it into a document. But given how hard he is working on 2015.02 I think I will let him do that first!

Sorry again for the delay getting the reference manual written. Now that the 64 bit iOS is mostly sorted we are now working on exporting the Gideors docs in such a way they can be compiled into a PDF and hope to have it ready soon for £25+ donors.

I'm pleased to announce I have now sent out the Gideros Reference Manual to those who pledged £25 or more. Thanks a million for supporting the campaign and sorry this is late! $:\$ "> Please let me know if you haven't got your copy.

The manual is 485 pages long!

Already sent a copy to lulu for printing. Costs about £10 inc delivery.

It would be better if a second verison was resent with covers as images rather than in the pdf as it would be easier to submit to lulu.

Or you could do a lulu link with it all predone?

I will look into lulu and see how we could use it. Wasn't aware of it till now. The only issue with putting the manual on a website is we need to keep it exclusive to backers...

BTW, I got a few bounce backs when sending the Manual out so if you haven't received yours please let me know and feel free to send me a PM.

And let me know if you are missing any other rewards of course!

My book arrived (i ordered 2, one for me and one for Dylan - my 11 year old who is learning Gideros in year 6 code club). They cost £11.50 each inc delivery from Lulu and took 3 days to get to me once I submitted the files.

If you want I can make it a public link so others vcan buy them - this wont alter the reward as those people got an ebook 'exclusive'...

Thanks for doing this, @SinisterSoft, looks great! What do other people think about making the Reference Guide available to buy as a printed book? It's a useful document but should it remain exclusive to Kickstarter donors?

One option would be to send the link to buy the physical book only to donors...

OK, well the Gideros core project is now complete (stretch goal still needs to be done) and all rewards have been sent out. However, now that we have added some more APIs, I propose to issue a new version of the Reference Manual to backers and also make a physical copy available to buy at cost price.

I recall some of you commented on improvements to the Reference Manual but I didn't have time to look at these and respond $:\$ ">. If you have any advice for improving it, please let me know again (sorry, I was up to my eyeballs in Gideros code!)

Maybe the existing version can be put on Amazon as Rev 1 for people to buy if they want a paper version.

With Rev 2 coming after the Pi stretch goal?

@talis, I haven't done much recently I'm afraid. I will add the APIs which have been added during the Kickstarter eg application:setFullScreen and prepare a new PDF release. I will circulate this to backers. Then I intend to self publish the paper version on Amazon for anyone to buy. Did you find any typos in the manual? Suggestions for improvement?

@SinisterSoft I don't think it's necessary to wait till after Pi is complete to release rev 2. The pi conversion will not involve any new APIs (hopefully!).
