Introducing Kut

Today we introduce Kut, the fastest way to design interfaces for different platforms!

Kut is Kwiksher's second Photoshop plugin aiming to support creatives to speed up the creation of user interfaces for different mobile screens. You design once and Kut does the rest of the job for you, not only exporting images to different resolutions but also creating a “Developer Report” that shows size and positioning of each file generated, speeding up the task of your developer re-creating the interface while coding. Kut also exports icons and compress all png files for you.

  • Hi Alex (@d3mac123), the only gripe has been that you do not support the older Photoshop versions even with Kwisher, I'll be honest it is not cheap getting a legal version and specially more so not at all cheap in Australia. Kut seems to be a wonderful tool, but alas it has the same entry level barriers.

Have you had a look at phLayers it has been around for quite a while now and most importantly it works without even requiring the user to have Photoshop on their machines.

Anyways, congratulations on Kut, it is another tools that will help the designers that want to turn developers and a lot of developers that have to otherwise try to explain to designers on how to layer and position objects, etc.

  • Jay,

    Thanks for the words!
Kutt (renamed to avoid issues in Netherlands) is tested on CS5 and above (as I don't have older versions of Photoshop I cannot guarantee it will work with CS4 - I have to say thou CS4 has very few users at this moment).

Regarding price, Photoshop can be acquired now for $9/mo, which is really a good deal to anyone seriously working on design.

Kwiksher target audience is professional creatives, with Photoshop being their preferred tool. Of course we have lots of "non-pros" but they are fine using their old CS5 versions while using our tools.

I didn't know about phLayer. Seems to be nice but, again, requires to leave Photoshop, which for some users is not the desired thing. Can you believe one user of ours sent us an email telling the button in Kwik he hates the most is the Publish - because it opens the "you know who" Simulator and leaves Photoshop? This is honestly the truth :)

Hi Alex, don't forget to modify your link above to : http://www.kwiksher.com/kutt/
How I wished Kwiksher supported Gideros (but I know it won't happen though).

Yes, you are right the demographics of the users be it devs or designers dislike a new environment or a change of environment to build or perform another task. I am sure you will get the workflow such that it would become seamless.

I will get a copy as soon as I upgrade, this is definitely a very important tool for development.
