  Have signed the petition. I find it a little strange because the Google Reader App only updated a couple of days ago. Surely the team would have known that Reader was being scrapped and not bothered updating the app. Currently 30,000+ signatures.

  Damm - I hope Google see sense. I use that app so much I'd even be prepared to move to a paid subscription model if that was what's required!

  I'd rather a straight copy, but any replacement would be better - hopefully Google will wake up and change their mind, but I'm not holding my breath

  I rely a lot on Google Reader to scan 10x headlines than I could do without it, and find good articles. Starred items are sent to my Pocket App (read later) or directly to Evernote (reference & archive).
  I bought Mr Reader just a few hours before the news...
  
  The good thing is that now the web is trying to redefine rss (improve/update/and not relying on any company to keep it alive) :
  As @Scouser said, Digg is working on it, see Feedly too,

  We have been working on a project called Normandy which is a feedly clone of the Google Reader API – running on Google App Engine

  and App.net could also be a solution.

  I have heard good things about TheOldReader.com but never used it myself. I will wait a few weeks to see what solutions will be recommended by users.

  Thanks everyone for their input and replacement suggestions, I'm already trying Feedly and I'll look into others, but for my money - I'd rather Google just reversed this decision as to coin an "Applism" - "It just works!"
  
  Although - I'll agree there can be no progress without change, maybe in a way this is a good thing, the change will be painful but maybe a better solution will arise... ???

  Surely you already exported all your feeds for use in another reader didn't you?
  
  Providing you're logged into your Google account you can still access your reader feeds via the normal Google Reader link.

  Yeah - I know (yes already exported all the feeds), and I normally visit by going direct to reader.google.com (which still works), I was just being dramatic!
