New Gideros Docs/Wiki...

Some of you have helped with 'Made with Gideros', (See: http://forum.giderosmobile.com/discussion/7461/made-with-gideros ). Well, that was part of a bigger project to make the documentation easier to edit and add to by everyone.

The API documentation has been properly imported now into the new Wiki by @hgy29 , I'm also part way through copying all the information from the old wiki and documents to this new system.

But we really need your help...

If you could take a look at what is there now, if you see an error then please get in touch here for someone to edit the page or for you to ask for a username so you can edit it yourself (the preferred method!). Better documentation will encourage more people to use Gideros and this in turn will encourage maintainers to add more features, make it faster, more useable, etc...

If you look at the API commands and see something missing, or you feel there should be some more examples then also mention it here or better still ask for a username and add the missing bits or examples.

Also, you may notice that some of the pages have translations, if your native language isn't listed then it would be great if you could contact us here and we will create a username for you to translate into your language.

Important note to people updating the wiki: the API ref contains tags like GIDEROSMTD, GIDEROSOBJ, ... as comments. Don't remove them, and add them accordingly if you create new API. Gideros compilation scripts depend on these to collect API data, and they will be useful for any other script with similar purpose.

The wiki docs page also now has a new skin (thanks @hgy29 ) that makes it look much less like a wiki and more like a proper help website:

See if somehow your browser has cached it - can you try in a different browser?

Or you have shrunk the screen previously - press CTRL + a few times to scale the font to normal.

weird still same. I cleared all cache. I tried zoom in zoom out (ctrl +-) and i tried internet explorer which i never used before. (So there can not be cached nothing)
I am using Firefox Quantum 62.0.2 64 bit.

I've updated the main welcome page to take the links out of the 'quick start' section and added to to a new section called 'links' at the end of the page.

I also added new page for youtube channel links.

unfortunately non-informative, he didn't mention real benefits like async calls, multithreading, etc.

he could've asked the community, or at least take a look at this page

You say non informative but he reads through the benefits from the Gideros website. If Gideros doesn't bother to tell people about the benefits that he is reading verbatim from the website.. it's not his fault if the information is not present there.

Hence my constant nagging (which I am over with now) to update Gideros infrastructure.

The guy gets other basic stuff wrong too like telling the audience that ZeroBrane is spelled ZeroBrayne. Its kind of sad that somebody with a large audience misrepresents different systems (yes, not just Gideros) because they didn't research the subject fully before putting mouth to camera.

It is true that Gideros mobile front page isn't accurate. Maintaining it is quite difficult (for me), and time consuming. Couldn't we find something more collaborative to edit it ? Note that I am not very fond of wordpress and such due to vulnerabilities they sometimes expose, but if that is a way to keep our front page accurate, then why not ?

I like current website look BTW, and what about login-based sections such as developers page, market place, etc... I couldn't really make sense of the code on the server.

Oh, and I suggested a few months ago to recode Gideros website in Gideros itself! It makes sense for at least three reasons:
- This would allow for immersive/dynamic website experience
- This would allow to do it using our favorite tool (anyone here could participate)
- We could 'show off' Gideros abilities

The cons:
- Even if Gideros HTML export has improved a lot recently, it is still heavier than pure JS/HTML
- It requires to load at least 1MB of data before going dynamic/usable (a static loading screen can still be shown meanwhile).

It could load the assets once initially started - using 'static' animated textures whilst waiting. Like the 'lol' facebook instant game does, etc...

Maybe for starters we should create draft PSD sketch of a new homepage with all the stuff that we want to include there.
We should provide more details about strong sides of Gideros. And avoid general statements like "fast development", "cross platform".

Maybe even make an objective comparison 'Gideros vs U-engine' with pros and cons (maybe it should be a blog post or article, and should be linked from main page). We have to admit that every game developer nowadays is looking at unity, and wants to know why choose something else. So we have to be staightforward.

p. s. wordpress is horrible and it sucks imo.

I think comparisons are possibly a bad idea, if anything is incorrect then it's possible Gideros could be liable.

a homepage made in gideros would have many cons i think, like support for all machines (phone screens etc), having linkable subpages, selectable text whatever. i did not use html export much, but i think using js for a homepage is still a safer choice.
otherwise, i also do not enjoy making homepages, so i'm not sure what would be the best way.

If you look at my test page, it resizes for different aspect ratios.

The main issue with a Gideros powered website is that whilst it takes only 30 seconds to start up.. that's about 29 seconds too long for the majority of people.

Oh, and if you want to compare features then you wouldn't say "Corona" you would say "other SDK's"

@Oleg - yes I'd forgotten about that. Maybe it could detect robots and show them a textual version with embedded links?

Why isn't the wiki https://wiki.giderosmobile.com/index.php/Welcome! linked on the gideros website? Isn't it ready?

I may contribute and add some stuff as I am learning (I am new to lua). Gideros needs to rise again!
