@antix, that was another thing why i've preferred zbs, but i'm bored of pointing out constantly how much i like zbs. and i'm also glad that it ended up in gideros studio finally. if only gideros would remember the last search settings...
Is there a real reason why Gideros has it's own IDE when there are better alternatives available? Or would it be possible to adopt something like Visual Studio Code?
I personally only use GS for on device testing and exporting.
having gideros studio makes gideros more accessible for newcomers. there is no complicated setup process, look how much trouble it takes for people to set up zbs, even though it's almost trivial. also you can reach examples immediately. and it has a menu tailored for multiple device testing etc. gideros specific things. so i don't see it being obsolete soon but i'm completely for being able to do everything from command line so that from zbs etc. you can theoretically also do everything.
@keszegh I certainly take your points. I was just thinking along the lines that using an alternative IDEs would free up the devs to concentrate on other features. Certainly, command line would be a great way to start using other IDEs. There's already a Lua extension in VS Code that looks good. It has 19K installs!!
i agree that in a sense gideros studio just wastes development time of contributors that could be spent better on improving the sdk. but luckily not much has to be done with it, except to work on export options, but that has to be done anyway even without having an editor.
About command line, gideros comes with two command line tools already: - gdrexport: export a gideros project given a .gproj file - gdrbridge: detect alive players and allow playing a gideros project on a remote or local player
@keszegh@simwhi@hgy29 I feel the same (after the discussion about ZBS in the Gideros Theme thread)... All we need is a secure way to modify/update the .gproj file then and maybe a good way to access the functionality of gdrexport and gdrbridge... :-? Although the ease of access with Studio is certainly a valid point.
Thanks to @keszegh and @hgy29 for this improvement. One more little thing it should be useful. When the "Find" dialog reopens after "Cancel" button click, the "Find Next" button should be refocused for quick search. in filedialog.ui the "Cancel" button --> QPushButton --> autoDefault property checkbox should be unchecked for this change?
I think Gideros Studio should totally stay. As @keszegh said it's good for new users. As long as they can be made aware that there are other options available like ZB Studio then that's cool. Gideros Studio does have a lot of stuff for exporting now which in theory could be made into a separate tool but really is better as part of the studio, pretty much an all in one program.
Yes I think too that Studio should stay, or otherwise we would have to supply ZBS (or something else) within gideros package and add export options / gideros specific tools to it. It is true that there is room for improvement in Studio, but it is also true that there are other priorities...
@antix, yes I still use Gideros Studio exclusively but I'd like to have and outline pane and on the fly lua syntax checking too. Add a debugger over that and gideros studio would be enough for 90% people.
