Hello! 3D game maker transitioning to Gideros

Hey guys 
It's been a few years since making a game. I used to make some mods for 3D games. I want to make a side-scroller for Gideros, but it's a bit overwhelming. Some people seem to advocate coding from the ground-up, others are suggesting SDKs. Hopefully I can figure some of this out. It is difficult to break into this as a newbie!
I used to make sprites about a decade ago - it will be fun to be making them for a new game once I have everything coded...

Actually in my opinion moving from 3d to 2d should be like a downgrade and thus quite easy to do
But hey, I've never really worked with 3d, so maybe it is a completely different world
