The road from iOS to Android

Apple has failed to keep my interest. Up until the last few weeks my friends called me an 'iFanboi' but the tables have turned.
I was looking at a Samsung Galaxy S4 for my next phone but a friend convinced me to check out the HTC One. I did and bought it soon after. Could not be happier. So much more to customise and the quality of the build is like an iPhone, with a unibody casing.
Two nights ago I sold my iPhone 5 on eBay and have posted it off today.
I rarely use my iPad Mini. I might end up giving it away.
When I use my MacBook Pro I mostly boot into the Windows 7 partition which is my default boot partition now.
I booted once into OSX to do something in the last month. Can't remember what, now.
I'm happy with my transition. I may yet end up selling my MacBook Pro and getting a 'normal PC' with Windows 7 on it. Not interested in Windows 8 until you can do more with it. eg. Steam and other non-installable apps.
I will still follow what's going on at Cupertino in the news, but I've lost my love in the iOS world.

  • @Walouk,
some new Android devices are comparable or better, Apple has ridden the wave and their decline started after Jobs left, the results of which are now visible, shares going down, people not very happy with the hardware or others catching up with Apple.

However the only thing that I feel differently about is using the Mac, Everytime I start windows (Fusion or Parallels, I have both) the only thing it seems to do is update itself with 1GB or updates and even after all of that it is sluggish compared to what I am used to with my Mac.

The only gripe I have with Apple is that they make the hardware obsolete very fast and their hardware is not exactly cheap. I had given my 2nd Gen iPod to my parents for just playing games, etc then had to get them a newer iPod for Facetime. My iPhone 3G still served as a cheap smartphone while I was overseas, but cannot use it anymore for development. Even the iPhone4 is becoming obsolete and slow in comparison to the iPhone5. I have an iPad 1st Generation but it is of no use now as it cannot be used for development and many apps do not work with it and I think newer versions of the iOS cannot be installed on this. If I look at selling these, I could get nothing for them here, might get something in India, but still negligible.

I look forward to the day that I can replace my iMac with the new sleeker iMac but I do not want to give up the CD-Drive and if there could be an easier and cheaper way to upgrade to the Hybrid HDD, I guess the iMac could give a couple of more years off it.

On the other hand I have found the *native* Windows Laptop to be very slow in comparison to a virtual machine running on a Mac. Though a bit dejected, I am still quite happy with the iMac and would not replace it with a Windows box. Though my MBP laptop is another story but it came in handy this time on my trip overseas and will again come in handy for the workshop I am running in Sydney in the first week of July.

If I were to replace the laptop, I would look for a Tablet that would have good processing, capacity and speed. I was at one time enamored by the 20" Sony Tablet PC but would like something more byte sized now.
