Hello all
I was asked by one of the members to share some advice for promoting app and getting more downloads. But I don't really think that I'm bet guy in that field.
So I decided to share my answer here and let you guys improve and add it, and maybe together we would put up something useful
I'd say that freemium model is not working, thus we are changing Mashballs to freetoplay + inapps.
Here is a quick check list of what you should have:
- Your own personal or company website with
- contact info
- sharing options
- your app promo banners or sliders
- Separate webpage for each app with:
- description of app
- links to markets
- screenshots
- promo video
- press kit
- Social appearance:
- twitter account (app or studio specific)
- facebook page
- youtube channel for videos
- pinterest for screenshots
Submitting your app to any market you can
eventually we dumped some of the markets because of too low download count
but in the beginning every download counts:
here are our top 10 markets:
Here are the lists of markets available:
http://www.android-markets-info.com/android-markets-listhttp://martingryner.com/on-alternative-android-app-stores/It can be very tiresome submitting your app and then submitting updates, but can be quite rewarding in the end.
And then the last thing (and probably most important) is contacting the media.
There were couple of great tutorials on that but I can't seem to find them right now.
There was a post on gamasutra and there was even an ebook about it on
http://www.pixelprospector.com/how-to-contact-press/Here is the list I've contacted
http://maniacdev.com/2012/05/ios-app-review-sitesand there were only few responses, most of them would want money for reviews, with some we managed to to have a link exchange, where we put their link on our website.
And another aspect would be improving your own app, I've found that post mortems can help you with that (as in learning on other mistakes).
Here is a list of different post mortems:
http://www.pixelprospector.com/the-big-list-of-postmortems/The most important one to check (a must I would say) is this one:

That's basically all for now
