Spammer on the forum

I was just sent the message shown below. Could the admins please warn or delete the user who sent it? I like the SDK and Gideros forums, but I won't tolerate being spammed from here!

We all love Miss Mara Somehow she spammed many users. If the spam included everyone then I'd say there's a backport or a method to retrieve emails of users.

@Magnusviri I think that is an excellent idea, although it may stop none programmers from joining the forum as it would appear too geeky

As for Miss Mara - once she's on the forum, sending out lot's of mails direct to other users is a no-brainer, there's probably a Chinese factory full of 5yr old miss mara's working for $0.01 a week just clicking on buttons.

You gotta love cheap chinese labour, isn't it ironic that it's probably cheaper to open a factory like this than invest the time in creating an app to do the same thing.

That was my point. Non-programmers might be put of even trying if the forum sign-up procedure is too geeky. There are lots of people around who wouldn't have a clue what that bit of simple code does but want to learn. Imagine a learner driver being asked to parallel park the car before they even know how to change gear, or even which pedal is the clutch.

I agree with @Scouser. You might well want to come here to learn and that entry code could easily stop you doing that.

If learning to code in lua is like a mountain to climb, then I've not yet reached base camp. Loads of posts on here are way beyond me, but some are not and from those I sometimes creep slowly forwards.

As a beginner, and being more on the artistic side, I would say that
even if Gideros (and lua frameworks in general) make it easy for beginners to start developing apps, if one doesn't understand the concept of loops, I guess he won't be able to do much with the framework?
Once the first successes of moving a bitmap and playing with physics are passed, I believe a beginner can't make much without knowing a little about functions, scope, loops, etc... in my case I think I have made some progress but I still feel uncomfortable to ask questions on the forum because I don't want to look too ridiculous in the middle of programmers. I can't imagine what it would be if I didn't know anything about loops, variables, etc...

So I think it's not a good idea to ask that kind of question when a users subscribes, but if he doesn't know about loops the Gideros forum is not the place to learn about how to code. Just my opinion

I was really joking. A more practical approach would just to put all new users in a moderated group that can't send private messages and all posts are moderated. But I think this depends more on the forum software than whatever we suggest because if the software can't do it then Gorkem would have to modify the source and he may not view that as a high priority.

@gorkem, I agree with you, that compared to the things that take the priority, this would be quite low, unless there is a backdoor or an exploit. However, I do agree with the ones that got spammed, that they might not like getting spammed, neither would I.

@Mr. Mells, I can only say this, every one starts from Kintergarden and move on to graduate. So in essence, the first time round every one is a beginner. It sure does help to speed things up if you ask then to not ask. I guess that is exactly what @Scouser is also trying to say the same, today maybe you are a bit shy and a non-programmer, tomorrow, who knows, you might be a Lua guru

I believe as it is the process of registering is complicated, a captcha would be fine but if we get this too geeky, it might just not work, plus one can always use a goolge/twitter account to log in directly.

If we can turn off the email notification, that could solve this issue too. I get an email and I also get a message on the forum and a notification that I have to read to get rid of. I am not sure that I love jumping through the hoops thrice for one message.
