How to start on Star Control clone

Hi,

I have been teaching my daughter how to code using Scratch (See: http://scratch.mit.edu) and as an intermediate project we created a simple space ship game. The game is very basic, just two spaceships and two shot sprites on the game stage. The sprites all bounce when they hit the edges which makes for some interesting game play. It was incredibly easy to put together but the project inspired me to break out my old favorite classic on my Android, Star Control Ur-Quan Masters (http://sc2.sourceforge.net). Long story lengthened, I would like to build something similar using Gideros. I am not too ambitious and would settle for the equivalent of my basic spaceship game to start, 2 spaceship sprites with 2 shot sprites that bounce on screen edge. I haven't looked at Gideros in over a year but I'm excited to see how far things have come. If anyone could give me advice on how to start, any online tutorials, etc. I'd appreciate it. I'm not sure how far I'll get but we'll see. Ultimately I'd like to build this into a 2 player device -> device game but for that I'm doing some reading here: http://gafferongames.com/networking-for-game-programmers/what-every-programmer-needs-to-know-about-game-networking/

Thanks in advance for whatever tips, tutorials, advice, pointers you can throw my way! :)
