Hi,

I'm new to Gilderos and would appreciate some help in getting started. At rinstrum we develop industrial weighing electronics and have recently added embedded LUA scripting to one of our products, hence the interest in developing in LUA.

What we would like to do is create a configuration utility on Android and ios using LUA that leverages the bluetooth serial profile to communicate with our products. Ideally we would like to develop the application in LUA and make it available to our customer base as a reference design for other applications they may need on mobile devices. This way they code in LUA to configure the embedded controller and can leverage some of this on mobile platforms via Gilderos.

Any help appreciated.

Anyone in the developer community interested in taking on the job of building us a framework, please get in touch. We have plenty of projects on the go so happy to outsource to someone experienced in this field.

Darren

Hi everyone,

I’ve been loitering in the Gideros forum - and asking the odd question - for quite some time, but haven’t introduced myself formally yet.

I’m an old-school games industry guy: dev’ing since the mid 1980’s. In that time I’ve been an artist, animator, designer, writer and producer. I wanted to start making my own games and was recommended Gideros by @SinisterSoft (we used to work together a looooong, long time ago).

I’ve just finished my first project, so I guess I could now add programmer to my skill-set (or at least scripter).

If you get chance, take a look at my game: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uscartgames.highlifeslots
Any 5 star reviews would be most welcome ;-D

Hello all. I am Scott.

I am part of a father and son game development team. We do it for love first and money second.

After using Marmalade for a couple of years we stumbled across Gideros and have just decided to have a go at making a few games with it. It really does look like the perfect platform for fast game creation. We can focus on the game rather than all the tech stuff.

I have over 30 years of experience in as a game developer, releasing my first game "droids" on the commodore 64 in the good old days. I have written games for most systems over the years as a sole developer or part of a massive team.

If you would like to see some of our recent games then here are a couple of links to the games I have written with my Son "Sckewi" who is also joining this lovely development community.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/developer?id=DevWilliams&hl=en_GB

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/developer/devwilliams/id455784703

It is just the two of us writing these games with the graphics being done by me so please be kind with your criticisms.

I hope to be able to contribute here and share some of my many years of programming and development experience.

Cheers. Scott.

Evening folks,

My name is Bryan and I am a systems engineer by day, software developer and aspiring game/app developer by night in the US. No, I'm not a C++ guru lol, but I like C#, Java, and Python and I'm beginning to accept LUA :-)

I came to Gideros after searching the web to find a Corona replacement for some apps I had written back in 2013. I wasn't particularly liking the pricing model in regard to ad plugins of Corona nor the fact they fail to produce an IDE worth using - at least that I could find.

When I found Gideros and seen it was an open source project, I was immediately attracted to it, as I had been wanting to become part of a project in some way or at least to help. So I downloaded it and give it a whirl last night along with a few videos and I have to say, for open source I was impressed. The only thing it seemed lacking was a GUI suite which is one of the reasons I wanted to check it out. I was looking for something to replace Unity when it comes to Apps, Unity as great as it is, is heavy in this realm, so I needed an alternative. However, it doesn't seem that Gideros has any GUI system (I could be wrong..?).

My main development tools are Unity3D, Visual Studio, IntelliJ, and PyCharm. I have used Corona for some apps as well as mentioned. I want to extend my passion for apps, games, and education into an opensource project that is helpful to people and it also bodes well with my portfolio of things of course. Finally, as I said, I'm a systems engineer, so I have access to a lot of options when it comes to infrastructure (servers, virtualization, databases...ect.)

I would like to help this project in any way I can, thus my question - if there is any role I might play, I would like to be considered for it, whatever it might be. Now I will proceed to try and rewrite my apps in Gideros.

Also, another question, can someone point me in the direction of ad systems plugins for Gideros?

Thanks,
Bryan

Hey everyone.

I picked up Gideros a few months back and I've got a couple games I'm getting close to releasing with it. I decided to join the forums and try to get in on the conversation here, but looking around I haven't seen any discord or skype community that could help connect the community more with some live chats. Not sure if I just missed it or if I'm the only one who'd be interested but I made a quick discord server (discord.gg/ekFkrWc) if anyone else out there would like such a thing.

I'm hoping to get some of the veteran community members on board as mods and start making things as accessible and beginner friendly as possible and maybe we can make Gideros a more popular engine choice all around. It definitely deserves to have more community members. If there's already such a discord I'd appreciate someone letting me know because I just haven't seen it.

Hi everybody,

I've been around here for a couple of years now, asking questions, getting good answers, and I'm immensely grateful for all the help and support I've got in this forum. I chose Gideros because of the not-so-steep learning curve of lua, and the platform's multi-os support, this forum, the aim at 2D graphics and the type of interaction and implementations I needed to create för my project.

This is my app. It's not a game, it's a pronunciation training tool for pre-school kids that need to practice speech sounds and articulation. (I'm a speech-language pathologist/therapist with a background as a graphics designer and animator.) There is a Swedish and an English speaking version, as well a lite and a paid version for each language.

So now you know. :-) Thanks again! /Thomas

I've been here a while, but only now decided to dive into Gideros :)
My name is George, I've been working as a web developer during last 5 years (the reason I quit: webdev/SEO is extremely overcrowded due to low skill requirements).

So 2 months ago I decided to try Android/iOS development.
I was new to gamedev, so it was hard for me to decide what engine to use.
I was choosing between Unity/Unreal, or maybe even Construct 2 cause it's more newbie-friendly.
Ninjadoodle recommended Gideros, and I'm extremely grateful for that :)

I've noticed that there are very few newbie video tutorials for Gideros and I felt like I really needed them. :) So for two months I was playing with Construct, learning some basic game logic and mechanics.
I planned to release one or two cute little mini-games, using Construct. But, freaking hell, Construct creates so much unnecessary trouble with Cocoon.js exporting that I decided to skip it for good. When it comes to mobile, there are sooo much ugly problems in Construct, which in Gideros (or any other decent software) don't exist at all.

So hi guys! This is my introduction! More newbie questions from me will be coming soon... :)

P. S. By the way, guys, do you know what is better for mobile 3D/VR/AR development - Unity or Unreal?
I just know that they are brilliant for PC games, but how mobile-friendly are they? How newbie-friendly are they? Is mobile even a high priority for them?

Right now it seems like even poor designed android apps become popular just because they are 3D or AR :) (i'm talking about apps of this type: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.akillimum.remotecarar )
Who knows, maybe the greatest opportunities are hidden in new hype technologies like this. It's like developing apps at the beginning of android era, many developers became rich because they were among first pioneers) What do you think about AR now?

Hi everyone, I've just started a studio called Hot Buttered Games. I'm new to Lua and Gideros but I'm impressed with what I've seen so far.

In fact I've just started a Meetup group in hopes of connecting with locals who are using Gideros, and maybe convincing a few more people to give it a try. For those who are nearby, the first Meetup is on April 27th in San Francisco. Let me know if you can make it or if you want to get involved in future meetings! The group is called San-Francisco-Lua-Game-Development

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm miquito. I was just introduced to Gideros by a friend and wow do I love it.
Used to be a game coder a long time ago before the advertising business got a hold of me. But now I'm putting that business on the shelf and will try to make games instead.

Haven't felt this excited since I got in to Flash (or future splash as it was called back then)

Got in to Blender a couple if years ago and I hope to be able to use that skill with Gideros.

Glad to be here!

Hi I'm rolfpancake or rolfo in short.

I discovered Gideros only a few days ago and after played around with it a bit, it catched me. /:)
I come from a python (kivy), godot (gd-script) and love2d (lua) background and wanted to dive more into lua app and game programming.

What I really liked at first sight is the Gideros Studio and it's simplicity. I didn't even had to read a guide to get some examples running. No additional installation needed, no cracks and dependency hooks. Kind of candy - I hope I won't get addicted ;)

At first I searched tutorials and such but there isn't much readable stuff around. I found a book and some tutorials here in the forum (which are sometimes not available anymore and there is no central collection with links).
The docs are quite nice - especially the getting started guide. But I wasn't able to find a pdf-version (I like it printed). So I created one (attached).

Is there some other material around?

Thanks in advance!

You see: I am already hooked. :-bd

Hello ladies (who are we fooling?), OK, gentlemen.
My name is Victor and I am <del>not</del> a game developer <del>(believe me, I try)</del> from South America.
I do pixel, vector and sometimes 3D art, actually I started in game development using Blender 2.49 (good ol' times :D) which was 3D, and then after that I tried experimenting with 2d as well.
So, there's a lot more than that, but let's just skip to the part I start using Vim and learn about Gideros's existence, which basically happened this week.
I'm sort of a <del>noob </del> newcomer to LUA and I complete noob to Gideros, but I hope my Python and JS <del>(which LUA is for me, python and JS but faster...)</del> background help me. See you :)
