  • Idea is good but need to be so much carefull about this subject.
For example there was actually a bug in adchildat() function in previous releases and @_atilim corrected it in the new version but this correction will cause errors if you will not update your code also. So before update users must read the features and bug corrections so much carefully . This is a manual job already so why not to update also manually:D

But anyway +1 from me to this feature:D
  • I have three versions of GS in a separate dir, an AutoUpdate would overwrite the current version, not something that I would like.

However, we can request @Atilim for a leaner build, minus the files that we do not require, like the windows tools inside the Mac binary and maybe have two downloads, a complete package for new developers and a lean studio update that has just the apps and the libs, without the samples, etc.

  • Hello all,
Or Gideros just tell us by startup there is a new version.
With the link you see the new features and bugfixes.
Then you decide if you want to download it.

  • For Mac Version, I think they should put it in AppStore. It has a series of advantages including discoverability, auto update etc...

  • Neat idea +1 from me

That would mean that Windows users will be on version 2013.08 while Atilim would be twiddling his thumbs waiting for Apple to approve and release version 2012.12 ;)

  • @OZApps In my Opinion that frequents small Updates are not good. I think Gideros should plan less Updates with small tweaks or bug fix. I think as other professional Engines do (Unity) they shall plan to release bigger updates trough official channels. In the short term I think it will be little bit difficult until Gideros do not get all the features that it needs to be competitive, but on a long term putting the Mac Version on the App store could really boost the sales and the awareness of of other devs about this tool. Maybe is better like it is, but I believe MacApp store can be a good tool for expand the market of Gideros.

A patch right now could really be just a notification of the Available Update. Sometimes when we work with external devs It can happen we are not aligned with the same version

Personally I am NOT in favour of auto updates as I like to be in control of which version I am using. I turn off auto updates on every program/system I use. This is especially the case for an SDK. I also do NOT think Gideros should be producing daily builds (recent thread): just because you pressed "commit" does not mean the project is ready for users!

Frankly I'm quite happy the way Gideros updates are being provided at the moment and the overworked Gideros staff should not be asked to spend time on stuff that "might be nice to have". I think we should only ask for features the absence of which are really preventing us from doing things.
  • I agree with @john26 think that auto updates are a "nice to have" but that the Gideros team have more important things to do. Priorities (which in the end are up to the Gideros team) should be in the areas that help increase the number of users using and paying for Gideros. In the end it isn't a problem for people to check for, download and install updates.

@Giuseppe_Crugliano I think that what I seen with Gideros so far has been great. If there is a bug with a release that affects a lot people then it is released asap. Regular release about every 1-2 months means that new features are available quickly without creating too much work for the Dev team.
